Garam Masala
About This Spot
Walking into Garam Masala feels like stepping into a quiet celebration of Indian flavors nestled in the heart of Kisumu’s bustling Mega Mall. The atmosphere strikes a thoughtful balance between warmth and vibrancy — a space where the gentle hum of conversation blends seamlessly with the steady, focused rhythm of a kitchen at work. It’s not a place rushing to impress but one that invites you to settle in, savor fresh aromas, and watch culinary craft unfold patiently behind the scenes.
The pace here is unhurried, reflective of dishes prepared with care rather than speed. Service greets you with genuine attentiveness, offering knowledgeable guidance that makes the menu feel less like a list and more like a journey into familiar, beloved tastes and subtle discoveries. Here, shared moments over food tend to linger — from aromatic curries steaming gently on the table, to fresh salads and cool kulfi that offer quiet, refreshing respite.
The vibrant menu plays with both tradition and comfort, inviting you to explore textures and spices that feel thoughtfully balanced rather than overwhelming. Whether you find yourself dipping into soft, buttery vegetable mixes or savoring the crisp, charred edges of paneer kababs, each bite tells a story of culinary patience and passion. The plates arrive in a way that encourages mindful eating — satisfying yet never rushed, leaving room to enjoy conversation and the easygoing ambiance.
Garam Masala naturally draws a diverse mix of patrons — from locals familiar with the craft of Indian cuisine to curious visitors discovering a new favorite. The warmth in each interaction, from the friendly and polished service to the open kitchen’s quiet bustle, echoes a shared appreciation for genuine hospitality. It’s a place where small details matter: the complimentary dips served as a welcome, the gentle clink of glasses filled with freshly squeezed lemonade, or the way freshly made masala chips complement a plate of richly spiced pork chop.
In Garam Masala, the experience feels deeply rooted in community and comfort without excess formality. It’s a spot where the vibrant heart of Indian cooking beats steadily in Kisumu — modest, patient, and ready to welcome you as often as you wish to return.

By far one of my favourite Indian Cuisine Restaurant. We chanced on this spot via google and with a rating of 4.5. Food didn't disappoint. Located at the Mega Mall Kisumu, we went for dinner at 9pm and we were still served hot freshly made dishes. We found it full and still more patrons coming in. Wycliffe was our server, great at food knowledge and recommended different items and starters as well. Their chicken lollipops is a must have. Anything mutton, chicken will be a hit and their buttered naans are a delight. My brother had his tea and it was mesmerizing. Our Lime Lemonade with Kisumu heat was a welcome delight. Security is topnotch and there are other clubs within the mall to sample after doing dinner. Will be back to Garam Masala for sure.

I rarely give a five star review but after my visit to Garam Masala I think it's absolutely the best restaurant in Kisumu bar none. Great service, lovely ambiance and great service. The Indian cuisine is absolutely delicious and so well done. The portions are not large however, you get so full I didn't finish my food. It was some type of buttered vegetable mix with pita. I had to take the rest home. You also get some crunchy starters and dips for FREE! I have never seen that in any restaurant in this country. If you love Indian food you have to pay this location a visit.

Probably the Indian food I've had. Ever. I can highly recommend the Butter Chicken, Kadai Ghost, Rogan Josh and Chicken Tikka Masala... It's as far as I got through the menu during my week in Kisumu and can't choose a favourite. Great service, filling portions, excellent food, great presentation, nice atmosphere. Food takes a while but it's made fresh, you get free dips and can watch the chef's cook. More expensive than other restaurants in Kisumu.

One of the best restaurants in kisumu for us. The service was top notch. Extremely polite and friendly. The food tasted wonderful. It was also very quickly prepared and we were able to observe the busy kitchen. Amazing value for price. Always again. Please note: open from 11-3pm and then 6:30-11
